MOUNTING A 5TH WHEEL HITCH There are several components that make up a 5th wheel hitch, and these components are determined by truck type and customer preferences. Answer the following questions to help choose the right hitch for your customer.

What size is the truck bed?

The length of the truck bed will determine which type of mounting platform the 5th wheel hitch requires: legs or a slider. Note: A slider may be required for long-bed trucks. Review each configuration before purchase.

LONG-BED

SHORT-BED

A 5th wheel slider is recommended on short-bed trucks. A slider adds clearance between the cab and the trailer when turning.

5th wheel legs are the standard 5th wheel mounting method. A long-bed truck will provide the necessary room for this option.

For short-bed trucks, follow the blue path.

For long-bed trucks, follow the orange path.

Measuring for a 5th wheel slider 1. Trailer width ÷ by 2 = X 2. Distance from truck cab to coupling point = Y 3. Truck-trailer clearance: Y - X = Z

If Z is negative you need a 5th wheel slider

OEM PUCK SYSTEM OPTIONS

Many trucks today, specifically from Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan and Ram, come with a built-in mounting platform in the bed called a puck system. A puck system makes installing a CURT 5th wheel hitch very easy.

LONG-BED WITH OEM PUCK SYSTEM If the long bed has a puck system, select a 5th wheel hitch with OEM puck system legs or rails.

See our complete kits.

SHORT-BED WITH OEM PUCK SYSTEM If the short bed has a puck system, select an OEM puck system roller or rail option to mount the 5th wheel.
