THE INNOVATION LEADER IN BRAKE CONTROLLERS

HOW TO SELECT A BRAKE CONTROLLER

BRAKE CONTROLLERS

There are two basic types of brake controllers. Inertia-based brake controllers use accelerometers to measure the change in velocity or inertia of the tow vehicle when braking. Time-based brake controllers apply a steadily increasing amount of brake power, based on the gain setting and sensitivity adjustment specified by the driver.

Answer the following questions to help determine which brake controller is the best fit for your customer.

What are they towing?

How often do they tow?

Heavy-duty

Frequently

If your customer is planning to tow more than twice a year, the precision of an inertia-based brake controller will help protect the life of the vehicle and trailer.

An inertia-based brake controller is ideal for towing heavy or fragile cargo. It will perform much smoother stops, resulting in less stress on the cargo and on the vehicle.

Light-duty

Occasionally

If your customer will only tow once or twice a year, they may prefer the simplicity and relatively lower cost of a time-based controller. Time-based controllers also require very little ef fort to set up.

If your customer is planning to tow a relatively lightweight trailer, a time-based brake controller may be suf ficient. CURT's time-based controllers are more budget-friendly and perform well with lighter loads.
